Death Benefits

an important reminder

In the event of a member’s death, benefits in the form of a lump sum and/or a spouse's pension may be payable. The death benefits payable under various scenarios are set out below.

To ensure that any lump sum benefit can be paid with the minimum of delay and free of inheritance tax, the Trustee Directors have to exercise discretion to decide who will receive payment. This is one of the Trustee Directors’ most important duties.

To guide them, the Trustee Directors ask that you complete and return a confidential expression of wish form. While not binding on the Trustee Directors, they will always take your wishes into account.

Please regularly review your expression of wish form and keep the Trustee Directors informed of your wishes. If your personal circumstances change, for example if you marry or have a child, you will almost certainly want to change your expression of wish form. If you have access to the Company’s Peoplesoft HR system (only available through its intranet) you can now provide such directions using its self-service functionality.
